A no frills trailrider, able to transport a surfboard + gear to the more remote surf breaks on the Danish west coast and hitting the singletracks when the sea goes flat.
Somewhat rough, not too pretty. Simple, functional and a bit of a beater…

A bike that would be able to transport a surfboard to the more remote surf breaks on the Danish west coast, not accessible by car and hitting the singletracks when the sea goes flat.
Surfing and trail riding has a lot in common. Chasing that feeling of flow, being close to nature while getting a bit of adrenaline going. For this bike concept, mixing the two felt like a no brainer and the leafcycles klunker was the perfect candidate for the job, due to the visual homage it is paying to the mtb roots of modified surfy beach cruisers. I was not going for a flowerpower venice thing, but a bike that resembled the coast where it would be ridden. Being a surfer in Denmark can be rough. There are no palm trees or turquoise water here. The best surf is often found in the dead of winter during a storm. I wanted the bike to be a bit rough as well, not too pretty. Simple, functional and a bit of a beater…

The milk crate is the utility box and holds all the stuff needed. It washed ashore one day while out surfing and it looks the part…
I designed adapters and 3d printed them in a strong nylon compound to make it quick and easy to get the crate on and off, depending on whether the bike is going trail riding or wave searching. I messed around with a pvc pipe custom surfboard rack, but in the end settled for an off the shelf that I found to be much more sturdy and thus better for bumpy rides. An old surly sunrise bar got mounted to match the other black parts. Brooks b-17 what else? I initially wanted to mount as wide a tire as possible to better the bikes performance in sandy trails, but so far have found the stock tires (continental trail king 2.4) to be plenty sufficient.
